Pressemitteilung SiS Launches First PCI Express AMD Athlon™ 64FX North Bridge the SiS756 Taipei, March 18, 2004- Taipei, March 18, 2004- Silicon Integrated Systems Corp. (SiS), a leading supplier of core logic chipsets, today announced the launch of its newest North Bridge for the AMD Athlon™ 64FX CPU, the SiS756. The SiS756 is the first SiS North Bridge supporting the new PCI-E standard, and is designed to work seamlessly with the SiS965 South Bridge, offering customers a complete PCI-E compatible desktop or notebook solution, with full support for the technologies of tomorrow that will arrive with PCI Express. The new PCI Express standard is phasing out the standard PCI slots that have been the basis of the PC hardware I/O system for the past decade. With PCI Express, users can expect their PC’s to be upgradeable to the next generation of high-performance peripheral devices designed specifically for the higher bandwidth that PCI Express offers, such as graphic cards and LAN cards. The AMD Athlon™ 64FX is currently the highest performing CPU available for desktop PC, as it has the largest on-die cache of any desktop PC processor and a substantial 128-bit integrated memory controller. This makes the Athlon™ 64 particularly effective for high-end multimedia and gaming applications, where reduced memory latency and enhanced memory performance make a significant difference in application performance. The Athlon™ 64 is also the only processor that is able to run 32 bit applications as well as upcoming 64 bit applications that promise to revolutionize desktop computing. The SiS756 also supports the new PCI Express x16 interface, which provides an 8GB/s bi-direction transfer rate, compared with the current AGP 8x standard of 2.1GB/s. PCIE 16x Graphics cards are already appearing on the market, and SiS756 customers will be well-positioned to take advantage of this huge step forward for desktop PC 3D graphics. The SiS756 is ready for these applications, as it features SiS’ leading HyperStreaming™ technology, integrated with AMD’s exclusive 1GHz HyperTransport™ technology to deliver up to 2000MT/s. Moreover, SiS MuTIOL® 1G technology, embedded in the SiS756 chipset, ensures the smoothest data transfer between North and South Bridges and the fastest bus architecture available on a desktop PC chipset. Matched with SiS’ latest South Bridge Chipset SiS965, the SiS756 offers a complete solution, simplifying sales and support while offering users the most cutting edge features. The SiS965 features a robust feature set for today’s demanding and varied PC applications, including support for two PCI-E x1, gigabit LAN, 8 USB 2.0 ports, AC 97 7.1 channel sound, 4 SATA and 4 PATA devices. The SiS965 also supports SATA Multiple RAID disk array modes in RAID0, 1, 0+1, and JBOD. “SiS has always been focused on cutting edge technologies,” said Michael Chen, President and CEO of SiS. “With the SiS756, SiS has given Athlon™ 64FX users the benefits of advanced PCI Express technology today.Availability The pilot run production has successfully begun and vendor samples are available now.
