Wie viel Leistung lässt sich heraus kitzeln

Die GeForce GTX 670 Phantom von Gainward ist wie Anfangs erwähnt beim Basistakt schon von 915 auf 1006 MHz übertaktet, das sind immerhin bereits fast 10%.  Wie wir aber schon in den Tests der GeForce GTX 680 Karten gesehen haben ist die Performance der neuen Kepler-Karten aber deutlich mehr vom realen Boost-Takt abhängig, der konkret gar nicht angegeben. Dieser liegt zum Teil deutlich über dem angegebenen Boost-Clock, der hier mit 1084 MHz angegeben ist. Wichtig für den GPU-Boost ist bei allen Karten das Power-Limit, denn wenn die Karte nicht so stark in der Stromaufnahme begrenzt ist, kann der Takt der Karte gleichmäßiger auf hohem Level gehalten werden.

Auf der Gainward Karte kann das Powerlimit um 28% erhöht werden und ermöglicht damit ebenfalls ein verbessertes arbeiten von GPU-Boost. Alleine das anheben des Powerlimits kann schon die Performance der Karte verbessern. Spannend ist dabei immer, welche Taktrate am Ende stehen bleibt, denn mit GPU-Boost können alle GeForce GTX je nach Güte der GPU anders takten. Die Gainward GeForce GTX 670 Phantom erlaubte bei uns ein Anheben des Taktes um weitere 70-80 MHz über den Basistakt. Die Speicherkatraten können bei den GTX 670/680 Modellen in der Regel zwischen 400 und 500 MHz angehoben werden.

Wie üblich haben wir zur Analyse des Overclocking-Verhaltens die Gainward Phantom unter normalen Taktraten, mit erhöhtem Power-Limit und mit erhöhtem Power-Limit und Takt durch die vier Game-Tests des 3DMark 11 laufen lassen und die Taktfrequenzen aufgezeichnet.

Bereits bei den Standardeinstellungen sieht man wie die Gainward Karte bis hin zu 1176 MHz übertaktet. Damit liegt der Takt sogar deutlich über den GeForce GTX 680, die zumeist nicht deutlich über 1134 MHz laufen. Das Bedeutet, das die GTX 670 Phantom bei den Taktraten im Base-Clock mit der GTX 680 gleichauf, beim Boost-Clock sogar eher darüber taktet.

Wenn man das Power-Limit der Karte erhöht sieht man wie auch schon bei den vorher getesteten Modellen, dass sich der Bost-Clock auf dem hohen Level fest setzt und dort länger bleibt. Die Karte taktet hier quasi konstant mit 1176 oder 1163 MHz

Durch die Anhebung des Referenztakts waren wir letztendlich in der Lage dem Takt der Karte auf bis zu 1266 MHz hoch zu setzen und eine entsprechende Performance-Steigerung zu erzielen.
